POSITION TITLE:            Retail Sales Associate

REPORTS TO:                  Retail Store General Manager

REMUNERATION:           Part Time for Weekends / Paid Hourly

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

As a collaborative member of The Compassionate Closet  team and The Hospice Halifax Organization, the Retail Sales Associate works closely with volunteers, staff and management in our New-to-You retail store. This position provides service to customers and assists the General Manager and other staff in the maintenance of store operations, from receipt of product to sorting, merchandising and sales.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

●Greets and receives customers in a welcoming manner.

●Engages customers by helping them select products when appropriate.

●Responds to customers’ questions.

●Directs customers by escorting them to racks and counters.

●Provides outstanding customer service.

●Manages financial transactions, processes payments of cash, debit or credit.

●Assists with inventory, steaming and restocking merchandise throughout shift.

●Answers donation receiving door as required

●Sort and identify items received as required

●Assist volunteers in during their shifts at the store.

●Maintain neat, clean, and organized workstations, consistently organizing the sales floor, front cash and steaming station.  

 

This particular position is being hired for Weekends

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Retail experience in the following areas considered an asset to have:

    •  Visual display

    • Merchandising

    • Customer service

    • Customer loyalty and retention programs

  • Strong interpersonal skills; willing and able to work with a variety of people; friendly, outgoing and appreciative of volunteers and their time

  • Highly developed ability to multitask and organize

  • Volunteer supervision/management or previous work with a volunteer team/organization an asset;

  • Experience working with POS systems

  •  Ability to collaborate with volunteers and rest of the team

  • Attention to detail, knowledge of fashion, trends, vintage

  • Computer literate

  • Ability to work a schedule consisting of  weekend shifts

  • Ability to be flexible, work with interruptions, handle more than one situation at a time and shift priorities quickly
     

Additional Requirements:

●Constant interaction with staff, volunteers and customers.

●Adherence to all Health and Safety and Hospice Halifax Procedures and Policies

●Support efforts at reducing, recycling and reusing where appropriate

●Firm commitment to the mission of our Shop and the Hospice Halifax organization

●Participate in Hospice fundraising activities (e.g. Hike for Hospice)

●Represent Hospice Halifax in the community.

Physical Requirements:

●Ability to frequently stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk and/or hear.

●Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, 50lbs with help and/or move up to 50 or more pounds.

●Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
